چکیده

To determine whether balloon angioplasty can provoke arterial vasoconstriction independent of platelet aggregation and neurogenic input, we studied the spontaneous vasomotor effects of balloon dilatation in isolated, perfused whole-vessel segments of rabbit aorta and pig carotid artery. Freshly dissected rabbit thoracic aortas were mounted in a muscle bath-perfusion chamber, perfused with physiologic saline solution at 70 mm Hg, and allowed to equilibrate. The proximal or distal half of the aortas were dilated with either a "large" (5 mm, 31-51% stretch beyond relaxed diameter) or a "small" (4 mm, 5-16% stretch) balloon angioplasty catheter with the other half of the vessel serving as the control. Persistent Dysfunction of Regenerated Endothelium After Balloon Angioplast of Rabbit Iliac Artery

This study investigated the vasodilator function of endothelium that regenerated after balloon angioplasty and the relation of this function to the extent of vascular injury and to subsequent intimal proliferation. Balloon angioplasty was performed in the left iliac artery of 47 New Zealand White rabbits. Vascular responses were examined in vitro 2 and 4 weeks after a "severe" injury (3.0-mm ba...

Time course of endothelium-dependent and -independent coronary vasomotor response to coronary balloons and stents. Comparison of plain and drug-eluting balloons and stents.

OBJECTIVES This study sought to determine the time dependency of the endothelium-dependent and -independent vascular responses after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting (DEB) or plain balloons, bare-metal (BMS), and drug-eluting (DES) stents, or controls. BACKGROUND Long-term endothelial dysfunction after DES implantation is associated with delayed healing and late thro...

Platelets, vasoconstriction, and nitroglycerin during arterial wall injury. A new antithrombotic role for an old drug.

Endothelial injury in vivo is associated with platelet deposition and a localized platelet-dependent vasoconstrictive response. To assess the influence of nitroglycerin on platelets and vasoconstriction, quantitative 111In-labeled platelet deposition (no platelets x 10(6)/cm2) of the injured segment and the degree of angiographic vasoconstriction (percent diameter narrowing proximal and distal ...

Pravastatin and endothelium dependent vasomotion after coronary angioplasty: the PREFACE trial.

OBJECTIVE To test the hypothesis that the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme-A reductase inhibitor pravastatin ameliorates endothelium mediated responses of dilated coronary segments: the PREFACE (pravastatin related effects following angioplasty on coronary endothelium) trial. DESIGN A double blind, randomised, placebo controlled, multicentre study. SETTING Four hospitals in the Netherlan...
